Advances in wind turbines

Optiwind of CT has created a new type of wind turbine ideal for sport facilities. The Compact Wind Acceleration Turbines (CWATs) come in both a 150kW and 300kW sizes and are designed to last 25 years. Over the 25 year life span the CWATs can generate as much as burning 25,000 barrels of oil and prevent the emission of over 8,000 tons of carbon dioxide. The slim design means the CWATs can be placed almost anywhere.

Clarian (http://www.clariantechnologies.com/main/page_home.html) is developing an innovative suite of plug-in wind and solar appliances that individual consumers can purchase from their local utility or home improvement center and install themselves. While I am waiting for this product to hit the shelves so I can buy one, it helps demonstrate the fact that you do not need a wind farm or acres of land to install a wind turbine.
